EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) addresses the psychological and physical symptoms stemming from adverse life experiences. EMDR is not just for trauma; it is also used for performance enhancement.

I became trained in EMDR therapy in Winter 2019 and began using this treatment immediately in my practice.  My own personal experiences overcoming trauma gives me a deep empathy and understanding with my clients. My life-changing experience with my personal EMDR therapy, and seeing the positive shifts in my EMDR clients in session, inspired me to seek out extensive training in this powerful modality so that others may also find peace.  By providing relationally-focused EMDR along with advanced psychotherapy methods (e.g. complex developmental trauma, attachment theory, DBT, CBT, ego states) we partner to:

  • Discover the origins of limiting beliefs in order to update old narratives about how you get to show up in the world, who you are, and what you deserve
  • Alleviate anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms through a positive, growth-oriented process grounded in the philosophy that everyone is seeking wholeness

The research is plentiful on the benefits of EMDR.  Below you will find resources to explore and learn about EMDR:

EMDR effectiveness:

  • Twenty-four randomized controlled trials support the positive effects of EMDR therapy in the treatment of emotional trauma and other adverse life experiences relevant to clinical practice.
  • Seven of 10 studies reported EMDR therapy to be more rapid and/or more effective than trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Twelve randomized studies of the eye movement component noted rapid decreases in negative emotions and/or vividness of disturbing images, with an additional 8 reporting a variety of other memory effects.
  • Numerous other evaluations document that EMDR therapy provides relief from a variety of somatic complaints.
  • Research and frequently asked questions about EMDR

I support clients in three formats: (1) Extended Individual Weekly or Bi-weekly Sessions, (2) Adjunct EMDR therapy and (3) EMDR Intensives (personalized treatment programs for individuals). I am licensed to treat individuals in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and South Carolina via telehealth.  As of March 2023, North Carolina and Florida licenses are pending board approval to practice independently.
